Description: Reporter Abigail Austen is a former parachute regiment officer who served four years alongside the U.S. Army in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She returns to the war zone at the invitation of her former Afghan colleagues during a pivotal point in their desperate battle against ISIS and the Taliban across Helmand and Kandahar provinces. In 2015, the Afghan army lost ten times more soldiers than the British lost in fifteen years. Austen visits wounded troops in Kandahar's military hospital, many of whom are the sole breadwinners for their families. And she flies with the helicopters of the Afghan Air Force, crucial to bringing in reinforcements and carrying out the wounded and dead. This episode first aired on 07/04/2016.
